Poles apart? : contextualizing the Gospel in Asia
John R. DavisJohn R. Davis taught and worked as a missionary in Thailand for many years. Over the years the author not only learnt the language and customs of the people but more importantly he learnt every aspect of their culture, their aspirations and hopes. After several years of working amongst the Thai people the author began to ask the crucial question - Is the Gospel being presented in a way that makes the Thai people to understand? Thus began a quest to find ways and means of how best to contextualize the Gospel to peoples of Asia. The author presents in this book crucial areas of inquiry that one must pursue if one is seriously interested in communicating the Gospel to people of different cultures from our own.
This volume is a second and enlarged edition of the book by the same name. The author has done extensive revision of chapters to make it suitable and applicable to the peoples and contexts of the Asian continent. He has also added a new chapter dealing with church structures and leadership in the church today.
